Cool House

We stay in first floor and it is very hot compared to ground floor. Anybody have idea as how to keep first floor cool in summers...

i if there are no other flats above your floor and if you do not have water problem then you can pour water on the floor of yur terrace in the evening. also you can hang wet towels or bet sheets over the windows and keep the fan running. this way you can cool down a little bit.

It will be good if you can keep the windows closed or semi closed atleast during noon.

Instead of blinds or curtains, you can try the traditional woven blinds.. they are known to beat the heat.. the straw woven ones or the straw mat material. I dont think they are very expensive too.. If you pick the right one to suit your walls, it will look great too!

Use Pedastal/table fan instead of ceiling fan.

I've heard that it is not advisable to use table/pedestal fan at night. this type will cool only one side of you face and not good for the health
