Schools/Daycares to avoid
Hello All,
Schooling has been our biggest concern right from day one of wanting to move back. Hyderabad definitely is lagging behind in this area. Please be extremely cautious while deciding on a school for your child as there are many of them out there with very impressive packaging and marketing strategies which manage to attract your attention but do not deliver goods.
Here's some feedback based on my personal experience and the feedback I received from local friends and relatives. Some of the schools are more of a hype and not at all worth exorbitant fees they charge:
1)
Chaitanya Vidyalaya: should be named the school for the Influential and Elite. This is no place for a common man or anyone without an influential name/image in the society. You are bound to be dissappointed with their unprofessional attitude and treatment of parents there to inquire about admissions. I am told this is their way of discouraging admissions of children who do not belong to the creme de la creme of the society as they would like to maintain a certain student profile.
2)
Hyderabad Public School: has completely lost it's past glory and fame and excepting the great infrastructure and premises it does not have anything else to offer children. Inside information is that due to politics played by some board members and former alumni members who are now board members the school lost most of it's best teachers and principal and is now being run catering to these members' whims and fancies with no importance being given to education or the children.
3)
Esperanza: A daycare being run in the name of a school located in Banajari Hills and Gachibowli....once again caters to the needs of the cream of the society.....filmstars, politicians etc children/grandchildren are given preferential treatment and focussed on a lot more than the general population of children who are also admitted here. Although it is only a day care facitlity it is being promoted as a school without any board certifications/qualified teachers/infrastructure or premises. It can be considered for your child in case you are looking for a fancy day care but beware the advertising punchlines such as 24 hour day care/airconditioned(does not run throughout and when the power is out)/surveilance cameras can be viewed by parents from the comfort of your house......(this can only be done in case of an emergency). The rooms where children are kept are not even ventilated properly as some of them do now have any windows at all and are below ground level(basement). To me that was a serious red flag in case of an emergency and they needed to evacuate as there are not enough exits and the two that they have are not easily accessible.....also with the lack of proper ventilation the children get couped up inside the 12 by 10 rooms.
4)
Future Kids: The school as such is good and may be worth considering for lower classes, but they have been declined the ICSE board certification because of which children in higher classes have been facing a lot of dofficulty. My cousin's daughter had a tough time appearing for her 10th boards as the school did not qualify for the certification and they did not make any arrangements for the students to take the exam elsewhere in this case.
5)
Gitanjali/Niraj: Good schools if you are looking for the typical "the whip does the trick" style of education, focus is on forcing/overwhelming the child with constant "coaching" which may help them achieve a high percentage at the end of the year academically but does not help develop their overall personality due to the lack of attention to extra curricular activities.
Once again please note that my feedback above is from personal observation and experience or from what my friends/relatives have experienced. While I leave it to your judgement whether or not you want to rely on our experience, some of it is definitely based on facts.
I will take this opportunity to appeciate all of you like minded people out there for wanting/deciding to move back to Hyderabad. This is the place to be.......you will have a lot of initial hiccups settling down which may be especially frustrating compared to the way of life you have been accustomed to so far abroad, but you will get through them eventually.
Remember it is what we make it to be.....please try to make it work and don't give up!
