Hi ILites,
I thought of sharing some ideas about having shelves, corner racks in the living room to put up few things on display.
Here is the problem we had in hand first -
We had this huge wall just opposite the entrance of the house where we have a diwan. The wall looked really empty except for one Tanjore painting that I had done when I was in 11th standard of mine :D We were running short of place to put up some decorative items on display as the existing showcase housing the TV and the rest was already full. So we thought, why not use the wall against the diwan set. Also I always wanted to have a corner showcase rack with a focus light. When we went hunting for such corner rack in Hyderabad we ended up with very little choice and the price was too high (around 22k. While in Chennai Jayabharatam furniture, I saw a much better piece for 14k). Also we thought that if we used the custom made corner rack, the bottom 2 racks would get hidden with the diwan and the sofa set. So while we were looking around an idea struck us
Here is the solution we found -
We got 3 'L' shaped racks (each cost us Rs.450) and 2 wooden corner racks (rather something like a plank of wood, each cost us Rs.610). The advantages we saw with these were -
1. if our need increased in future, we could just buy a few more and keep adding it on the wall and the corners. Isn't it a great idea (pat, pat, pat :D ) [As in my case, the space to the left of the tanjore painting is still completely empty. So in future I could add 3 such 'L' shaped ones]
2. You have the liberty to design your look of the rack on the wall. Arrange the individual racks on the wall in a formation that you love. Let your creativity run wild :D
So here is the snapshot of the shelf, corner rack we added. I just hurriedly picked up some stuff, put them on the racks, took a pic and sent it to my husband and surprised him. He had waited eagerly to see the finished one till 2 in the afternoon but had to push off to office :) Once he saw the mail from office, I just got great compliments :):):)
You too can pick up some ideas from here and go ahead.
I'm also adding a new feel to the kitchen, wash basin area near the dining hall by adding few hangers, transparent corner racks. Once am done with those, shall share the pics with you guys. :)
Your comments are welcome :)
PS: The corner rack you see in the attached pic, has a designed wooden scale like thing in the front to avoid objects from falling. This is a removable attachment. incase you feel it is unnecessary, you can always remove it.
