| Hi Sunitha, Congrats for moving into your new home ! I can totally understand this joyous feeling & excitement you are having ! As for having wood or carpet, both need regular cleaning & maintenance. Are you going to have wood and then carpet on it..or just going to replace the tiles? Here, at home, we have carpeted stairs, but beneath it there is wooden flooring. I clean this wooden floor area once in 2 days. As for carpet, it is much more comfortable for our feet and easy to vacuum too. If your place is going to be cold most of the time, then my suggestion will be to go for carpet, since wood also becomes cold during winter. Probably other IL'ites can give your more ideas. All the best Sunitha ! Cheers Krithika |

| Please do not consider the idea of carpeting I implemented the idea and regretted it later. The maintenance is a very big issue let me warn you further so if your home is exposed to dust too much. Its not easy to get them cleaned too and at the same time the edges are another thing to look about. My case got worsened as rats made a nightmare for me. Overall a total messy affair. I have now moved to tiles and am a lot satisfied am not weighing the cold problem too much.

| Thank you so much Krithika, Muralidharan and Pavithra ... Krithika, we have tiled floors all over our house ... My hubby told that we have to put carpets in kids room as the floor is very cold while they are playing ... But, for staircase we are confused ... After all of your suggestions, I think Carpet is Good ... Thanks friends ... Dear Murali, being in India, I can understand how much dust we will get into our house and it doesn't get cold too much too ... but here in luxembourg, it is a damn cold country for all the 7 - 8 months and we have no choice to put other than tiles .. either we have to go for wood or carpet (as we dont get much dust as it is hill side and not much pollution too) ... thanks friend for u r suggestions... Regards, Suni ...
