Exclamation Plaster of paris

Dear all,
for my new house,i am planning to do pillar & arch in the living room,for that the builder told it'll b very nice if it is made up of plaster of paris instead of cement....my doubt is will it be longstanding when compare with cement make????? also the prize will b more than cement,am i right????

Dear Vivbass

Getting it done with cement would be a permanent thing. It would not cost you a lot because plaster of paris could also cost you the same. You have to erect the structure with small rods and it has to be covered up with chicken mesh and a layer of cement is applied on that and finally finished it with plastering. Plaster of paris would be easier getting the work done but durability would not be as strong as cement. Edges if there are small children or when things or being shifted may tend to give up or broken because it is not as strong as cement. On cement also anyway you need to do the final finishing like applying primer, putty, sanding again primer and finally paint.

If there are any seepages plaster of paris would not last long, but cement arch would last. If it is done with plaster of paris ensure that good quality channels are used for frame work if people bargain for rates they tend to use inferior quality because of which over a period of time the arch work gets affected.

So now you decide what exactly you want. All the best

what my hubby is telling is the plaster of paris will stay atleast for 5 yrs,so after that if v want to change the design means v can change,this is what his
what do u say????

In our house also we did plaster of paris work but its life time is lesser than cement work, but doing with Plaster of Paris nice finishing we get
