hi vishu yes mat work can be done on attaching the matty cloth on fabric..first matty cloth is attached on fabric n cross stitch is done on it..after the work is done the matty cloth is removed by pulling the matty threads which is bit tidious... but the finishing will be very neat..i have one saree done in this method..

Thumbs up re: Embroidery : Discussion on Mat Embroidery

Dear Vishnu,
yes as lakshmi said, you have to fix the net cloth first on the cloth in which you want to do embroidery. The net is useful mainly for doing cross stitch effect.many years before i have done many frocks with this type of embroidery. the design will come very neat and the counting also will be very easy.

visalamkrishnan

Hi Vishnu,

We do Kasuthi embroidery using removable matty cloth. Cut the cloth according to your pattern. Then do a running stitch along the edge of the matty cloth so that it is fixed to the cloth. Then start doing embroidery on it. After the embroidery is done, try to pull the horizontal and vertical threads according to your convinience. If you want you can just sprinkle some water on the matty cloth, so that it will be bit easy to pull. But I feel it is not necessary. Then finally your pattern is on the fabric. I have done a kasuti border for the saree using this removable matty cloth. Hope this is helpful.

Hope this is the one you had asked.

Regards
Lilly
