Paintings : Tanjore Paintings Purchasing Information

Hi ladies,

Ca someone advise me as to where I can buy a good quality Tanjore painting- in Chennai, Bangalore or Kerala.

I know that they are available in Poompuhar and Kalpadruma in Chennai.

What I am looking for is good, reasonably priced ones made by individual artists marketing from home or showrooms.

I was looking for the same thing when last in India. Believe me, I did not have much luck in Bangalore:( May be Chennai has more choices as the art is from Tamilnadu and besides, the prices in Chennai are not as atrocious as in Bangalore. There are people who will do it for you for a fee, but I did not have much luck as they were all booked ahead and were in commission for others and I didn't have much time. Cottage Industry shop on MG Rd, Bangalore, may have them and other such arts and crafts shops. But the prices are questionable and the couple of pictures I saw in shops were not to my satisfaction. Hope you have better luck with them and do let us know when you finally buy- as to- where and for how much you bought them!

I was wondering if any of you know artists who will take commissions and do the painting - Chennai, Bangalore, Kerala.

Since it is a full set for a pooja room, it is better to have them small/medium and in same size and frame type.

Any leads?

sorry, guys..but, I am looking for wall hangings and other decorative items to hang at the entrance. Which shop is preferable to buy in Chennai? Have tried a couple of shops in Mount road and one in Pondy bazaar.

But, thro' online, I see many of them; anyways, pls let me know those who are experts in Chennai shopping.

I guess you have already looked at Poompuhar.

Maybe you cld try Dakshinachitra, Amethyst, Kipling & co (Adayar). Also Chettinad panels to place over the entrance. Even Kairali will have good Kathakali masks.
