Smile Gals, does anyone here do applique?

Hi Everybody,

I sew and make wonderful clothing for children. I am currently working on something that would look lovely with an applique on it. I have attached an image. Does anybody know to make something like this?

Hi shruthishetty79,
I have done a few appliqué work for my daughter's dresses, in my good old days! For the design you have attached you need to know embroidery too, machine or hand.
You select a cloth to be appliquéd, a violet one in this case, draw the design on a thick paper , cut it out, and placing the cut paper on the cloth draw the design on it.Embroider the eyes etc.Add 1 cm of border all around and cut it.All around at regular intervals cut notches, snipping just below the design. fold the 1 cm border on the wrong side and give a running stitch.place the cut applique on the dress, where you want it to be, and you can either slip stitch or machine stitch all around. Now you can remove the running stitch. You can add a sponge sheet cut in the same design and insert it between the appliquecloth and the dress, which will give a padded look.
