Hi

As I have taken a course in patchwork, I am sharing whatever knowledge i gained on the same. You need casement cloth for doing patchwork. Take a lighter shade for eg: light red) and a darker one i.e. black). Trace designs on the darker one, if you are using lighter as the base. Cut carefully the design traced and attach it to the base cloth using blanket stitch. For highlighting the inner lines use stem or chain stitch. i.e. if you are tracing the design of a girl, highlight her eyes, nose, lips, using stem stitch and outline her clothes with chain stitch. Hope my notes are clear to you.
