Post Jewelery Making - Materials

Hi ILites,

I have a question in jewelery making material. What medium (wire) do you use for making jewelery? Among these Plastic wire, gauge wire, gear wire, silk thread which one do you use and what size/number?

I know it depends upon the jewellery we make but I want to know, Which one do you prefer? Also include pros and cons if possible.

Thanks!

hi inimai...
mostly gear wire is prefered...
never prefer silk thread... though it may look gud.. but wont last for longer period ...
the wires r available from .03 mm...
u can prefer .03mm - .05 mm...
these are easy to handle...
above is can also be prefered but if there gonna be any bend our design may not look gud...
more over... there are many jewelery making queen available from our IL ...u can get their help who can guide u ...
keep going...

Hi,

Gear Wire is preffered.I have worked with all mediums though. Silky thread is good when you do a intricate pattern with stringing. In that also, prefer to use a thinker silky thread. Not sure of the size though.

As a start, you can try with gear wire, it is easy to handle. And as ahsu told, be carefulw ith bends

Happy Jewellery Making!!

Thumbs down Re: Jewelery Making - Materials

Hi Ashu,

Thank you for providing me the details! I have got an idea to buy the material and the size when I come to India. You have made my shopping easier. Thanks a lot!

I am making a list of materials to buy in India.

Could you give me any suggestions to buy these... (what I have to look quality/size... kind of) loriyals, gajri, hooks/tri-hooks, stones(double corner, four corner,..),crystals,spring,chain hooks,...

Thanks a lot!

Hi Archana,

Thanks for the reply! Do you mean to use thicker silky thread?

Thanks!

Could anybody give the materials list, so that like me who can visit India rarely ,buy the materials without any tension of not missing any important material?

If you provide a list of basic material list and an advanced material list, many of us will be helpful and we can buy according to our interest.

Hope ILites will help us!

Thanks!
