Michaels and Joann are the best place to get the kit. I too started doing cross stitching after getting the kits from them. They have a few advanced kits too but if you are a beginner they have small ones which carries everything including a frame.The kits are very easy to follow. There are many books too which you can refer. If you search for bottledupexpressions.com and click on counted cross stitch you will get all the names of the books for design and instructions.
