I have used different types of pencils - 2b, 4b and 6b for different shadings. Its very simple once you start trying and also there are lot of books available.

I have been doing pencil sketches too and i feel doing pencil sketches makes me more aware of the play of shadows ...may i make a small suggestion?you need to blend the pencil marks a bit more by stumping.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. When I use charcoal the stumping effect is different :) Guess I got to blend some more. Will post some more sketches very soon. Thanks once again for your suggestions.

Vijeta, actually I look at pictures from books and draw like you said... I get books from different places, sometimes online sites, and sometimes books from libraries... most of the things that I've done is on my site in my signature.
