Dear roshini,

Nib painting is nothing but paintings made with different kinds of nibs. it just look like our ink pen nib fixed on long pencil like holder. you can buy one holder and different kinds of nibs according to your drawings. nib types varies like nib with rounded tip ( Used to paint round objects) . Nib paintings mostly used to do with birds and flowers. for example if you like to paint petals of a flower first draw it on the cardboard apply oil paint of your choice and draw lines using line nibs . This gives natural effect. hope this helps you to get an idea about nib painting.

regards
lahani

Hello Roshni
Lahani has told you about the nibs and the paint that we can do with, but this type of painting is usually done on suede cloth. We get this material in any shops it is usually black, brown or maroon colours. Might be getting different colours now. I had done it nearly 18 yrs back and still have one or two with me in India. Will get the photos when I go to India and will put in. Some I did flowers, one which I like the most is a lady having coffee in the garden which I have preserved it. Will surely share this here.
The method of doing this is, will tell you for a flower:
1. Get the sketch on the cloth
2. Paint one petal and then take a thin nib and draw lines on that from inside to the outer part of the petal. do the same way to the other petals.
3 middle portion of the flower paint it round and with the round nib just press it on the paint around 5 to 6 rounds can be put in. OR
4. another way for the middle part is paint the round with yellow or brown whatever you like, take a contrast colour dip the round nib in that and just press it in the center about 5 to 6 times.
Same way you can do for the leaves as you have done for the petals or you can just paint the leaf and with the sharp needle can sketch the outline of the leaf.
In the end leave it to dry for atleast 48 hrs.
Hope this is helpful to you if not can ask further will help you.

Thank u for ur help....
I have some doubts....
We have to put the colors in that design first and then use nibs right?
I mean petals ,flowers etc...
One by one right?
Painting of middle portion is confusing..
Can u expalin it in more detail?
If u don't mind....
Thank u once again...

Cheers,
Roshni

Yes you put the colour on the design with the usual brush, you have to put more colour just not like you apply on paper or cardboard it should be a bit more, and then use the nib. You have to do it immediately after applying the paint so that you can get the lines becoz if it gets dried you cannot get the lines on that.
The middle portion:- You know the middle part of the flower you just paint it with the brush first and later with the round nib just press it. you will get round circles. If you are not confident first try it on the rough cloth and later you can try on the main cloth you will understand what I am telling you.
And the other one is first paint it with the brush, and then take the nib and dip that round nib in another colour, not too much of the colour should be taken on the nib just very little, lesser then a drop and just press it in the center where you have painted.
Hope you can follow it.
