Its interesting that doctors in India tell us to cut down on coconut consumption including coconut oil while its a rage in US. A lot of health conscious people try to eat coconut oil everyday as its fat composition is unique.

I really don't know the right answer and I use coconut oil along with sesame and groundnut oil as my mother and grandmother did.

Me too. Coconut oil/sesame oil from age old use at home. I have an addition of extra Virgin Olive oil. Mom used to make coconut oil and send it over when I lived in India. Here I just buy the organic coconut oil. My friends do substitute coconut oil for butter in baking and my runner friends consume it for the supposed health benefits.

Coconut oil, as with any oil is fine in moderation. After all our people have used it since ancient times. At home my mom uses sunflower oil but coconut oil is always used for specific dishes such as avial.
Now the current craze for coconut oil in America is amusing. I have friends who put it into coffee, cereal and whatnot. And one of the ladies at work very seriously told me how she has started using it on her skin and hair with miraculous results, and perhaps I should try the same. I managed to keep a straight face  !

I think any organic cold pressed oil - coconut, olive, sunflower, sesame etc is good for you. And like any good fat, shouldbe in moderation too.

For every little boo boo and every little cut in our childhood, we used coconut oil !!

Face, Hair, Dry skin in winters - we still use it !!

I read recently that people use it in coffee?? And I've heard them use it on toast instead of butter !!! ha ha ha ha ha !!!
