Hi pallavi, I am nutrition wellness advisor. How u tell you are underweight. Check you BODY MASS INDEX. Formula is weight(KG)/height in meter square. It must be between 20 to 24. If it is between 20 to 24 no need for you to worry. If it is lower than that then you can take some initiative to gain weight.

Also you must remember don't try to put weight because of fat.

    1. Take more veg & fruits, nuts.
    2. Put some mashed badam in milk & drink it before you go to sleep everyday.
    3. have atleast 1 banana every day.
    4. Try to sleep during day time. (atleast 1 hour).
    5. take more milk products & icecreams.
    6. Take food in every 2 hours.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen @ Indusladies:

I have compiled the information in the above messages here as a summary. Health Communication Experts: Please add as necessary. Rest of us: Please practise and pass the word.

Do you have iron deficiency? Do you want to improve iron content in your blood to optimum levels? You could ofcourse take a supplement. Would you rather do it by eating natural and naturally derived foods that are rich in iron..? Read on to understand and remember some such foods.

    Some Examples of Iron-Rich Foods:

Cereals & Grains: Barley, Pearl millet, Finger millet, Rice flakes, Rice bran, Corn flakes and Oats
Pulses & Beans: Cow peas, Whole Green gram, Black-eyed beans and Soya beans
    Spices: Turmeric
Fresh Vegetables: Broccoli, Beetroot, Mint and Lettuce
Fresh Fruits: Watermelon, Papaya and Pomegranate
    Dried Fruits: Dates and Raisins
    Nuts: Almonds and Walnuts
    Sweeteners: Jaggery

    Recommended Daily Intake of Iron:

Infants aged 0 to 6 months: 10 mg
Children aged 6 months to 4 years: 15 mg
    Females aged 11 to 50: 18 mg
Females aged 50 and above: 10 mg
Pregnant women: 30 to 60 mg
    Males aged 10 to 18: 18 mg
Males aged 19 and above: 10 mg

Some Examples of Iron-Rich Foods and their Iron Content:

Fifteen pieces of almonds contain 1 mg of iron
Half a cup of cooked spinach contains 1 mg of iron
One-third cup of lentils contain 1 mg of iron
Four pieces of dates contain 1 mg of iron
Two slices of brown bread contains 1 mg of iron
Cooked green peas 1/2 cup contains 1 mg of iron
Half a cooked potato contains 1 mg of iron
Two tablespoons of oats contain 1 mg of iron
One cup of beans contains 5 mg of iron

It's good to remember that 1 table spoon of chlorophyll equals 1 Kg of green vegetables. It's also good to remember that human body absorbes iron from raw food better!
