Hi all,
I usually buy regular beetroot from the indian store, bright red in colour.it oozes red coloured liquid and stains the hands. Is this normal?Yesterday in kroger in organic section i saw beet bunches which were pale orangish in colour.has any one tried organic beets?if yes does that also stain hands?
Yes, organic beetroot also stains. Organic or otherwise, in American grocery stores, the beetroots are with their leaves which can be used too.
Also, to reduce the staining, Chitvish has given a wonderful tip. We can pressure cook the whole beetroots inside a vessel. Then peel the skin and chop them to the desired size. Ofcourse, there will still be some staining, but it is much better than before. Also we can use the beetroot water collected inside the vessel.
Use the leaves of beetroot and make a side dish..Cook tur dal along with tomatoes, onions, garlic pods and green chillies..mash well and add chopped beet leaves...Cook in open vessel in low flame..Kindle then and then..Dont pour water but add little by litlle. Finally mash when well cooked ..Temper with mustard, urad dal and asafoetida
use the colored water of beetroot in rasam..Prepare paruppu rasam as we do regularly..While cooking tur dhall mix this water and cook else cut beetroot into cubes and cook along with dal...The rasam looks awesome and also tastes like soup
