    Hi Shel,

That's an interesting thread/poll on cooking oil. Many times food turns to be healthy/less healthy depending on the type of oil used, quantity of oil used and also depends on reusing of oil that was once used!!

So it's good to be aware of what oil to use and why.

I edited your poll to replace Walnut oil (hardly used by any Indian families, I guess) with Canola oil. That way Canola oil being the choice of most people (esp. those NRIs in US) would get more votes.

BTW, I used Wessen brand Vegetable oil and sometimes Wessen Corn oil for most of the cooking - deep frying, tadka and for tiffins.

I use Olive oil when I cook pasta or chinese, for the stir fries.

I use Gingelly oil rarely for some traditional dishes. Coconut oil only for avial and vazhaipoo curry.

    Malathy

    Hi ,
I use sunflower oil, rice bran oil, sesame oil, corn oil.I also use groundnut oil but in less frequency because i have heard that the amount of fat in this oil is a bit more.I use to use soya oil but since i am having thyroid i stopped using soya.i use olive oil for seasoning .

    with regards
