People around the world aiming at weight loss often wonder about meal times and the meal. Is it good to have dinner after 7 pm? Is it better to skip breakfast? Which is the best time of the day to have a meal for weight loss? Health experts opine that people overlook the big things and worry about smaller aspects for weight loss. Intermittent fasting makes a person gain weight steadily. With a gap of more than 12 hours before a person has the next meal, body struggles to provide energy by tapping into the fat reserves. All the organs in the body follow a biological clock and need energy to work efficiently. Lack of energy slows down body metabolism, which actually increases the risk of weight gain.

On the same vein, sticking to a daily schedule of eating on time is crucial to keep weight gain at bay. Irregular meals spike blood sugar levels which is unhealthy for the body. It can trigger heartburn, acidity, ulcer and IBS. Research suggests that regular eating pattern gives a beneficial edge to the body’s metabolism. A good meal schedule wards off hunger pangs and keeps the body and mind energized throughout the day.

A typical schedule consists of three meals and a snack break during the day. Determine the calorie needs as per your BMI and plan for a good meal strategy.

Breakfast by 8am

Lunch around 12 noon

Light snack by 3-4pm

Dinner by 7 pm.

Dear WorkingWoman,

The reason why doctors insist on early dinner is our metabolism slows down during this time towards the night and if we eat more calories when there is not much activity, we will end up gaining weight. There should be atleast two hours gap between the time you finish dinner and sleep. In case you are a person who does lots of activities at work, then a small snack an hour before sleep is ideal so that hunger does not spoil the sleep.

I guess what matters more is how much we eat for dinner and spread the number of calories between a light dinner and a light snack before we hit the bed for the day

True. A High fiber foods intake with a moderate exercise (may be a walk of 30 minits for 5 days a week ) will help in reducing the belly fat as well as body weight. It is my personnel experience. - Ram
