Stay Away From Lower Back Pain

    Like any other pain in the body, lower back pain can really hurt and can hinder daily routine. This pain occurs at the centre of the back or the left /right muscular spine. This condition is slowly becoming one of the significant health problems in the world. About eighty percent of the world’s population experience back pain at some point in their lives. The shooting pain in the lower back is a hindrance and severely limits physical activities among the adults. Surveys indicate women getting afflicted with back pain more than men. Women between the ages of 35 to 55 are at higher risk of getting lower back pain. The severity of back pain ranges from mild to fatal muscle or posture related pain.

    Causes

    Medical experts have not been able to pinpoint to a cause that could lead to lower back pain. It is mainly seen as a symptom of various causes, which includes –

    • Strenuous activity
    • Injury
    • Infection
    • Growth of Tumor
    • Obesity
    • Weak Back Muscles
    • Muscle Tear
    • Slipped Disk
    • Muscular Disease
    Prevention
    Lower back pain can be prevented by maintaining a good posture, practicing right lifting techniques, regular exercising, maintaining a healthy weight and reducing stress on the body.

    Treatment

    Depending on the severity of the condition, your doctor may include one or more of the following –

    • Medicines
    • Physiotherapy
    • Advice of weight loss (if required)
    • Surgery
    • Lifestyle changes which includes, exercises and other physical activities
    • Devices that assists the back eg., back support
    Tips

    • Have a pillow between your knees and lie down on the side when sleeping. This reduces pressure on the spine
    • Use a small soft pillow or towel that can support your lumbar curve when you sit
    • Meditation , deep breathing exercises or massaging the area are helpful since it will release endorphin hormones which are the body’s natural pain killers.
    • Apply ice or heat packs in the area to reduce the level of inflammation. Heat application increases the blood circulation in the area. You can also take a hot bath, shower or keep a heating pad, which provides mild heat to the lower back.
    • Up your intake of Vitamin C, D, E in your diet through nuts, milk, milk products, leafy vegetables, lentils, chicken, potatoes, papaya, citrus fruits, strawberries, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds.

    Very useful information... will pass on to my sis who is badly in need of this information... I have come across many of your informative threads... so you can help to get some remedies for knee pain (cartilage has become thin)...

    even sitting in front of computer for long hours and using laptop on bed which results in wrong sitting postures can also cause back pain.

    When suffering from backache you must regularly drink milk as it is a rich source of calcium which the body needs for strong bones and healthy muscles.
