Default Hair Oil Smell

Dear Friends
Hope someone can help me with this peculiar dilemma.

I have been married for over a year and my DH can't stand the smell of Coconut Hair Oil and I use it three times a week, at nights when I apply it to my hair he actually sleeps in the other room.
Even at a restaurant he can't stand the smell of Coconut Chutney, he has nothing against oiling my hair and suggested perfumed ones, I tried Dabur Amla and Keo Karpin and some other brands but I find that they do not suit my hair so well. Maybe its training from my mother but she always said those perfumed oils are no good.

Is there anything I can put in Coconut oil to make the smell go away without losing the goodness? I would like to do that at home where I know what the ingredients are instead of buying something I don't know/trust.

Thank you so much for your help.

Hello dear I am so sorry this is happening I know i would be so sad if this happened to me. I to agree with your mother perfumed products do nothing but make more damage so please dont use. Also you can try to mix olive oil with coconut oil see if that makes the smell go abit try sesame oil if he doesnt mind that smell or maybe almond oil too. I think to there is coconut oil with no smell but I am not sure of its name,I am sure they sell it at walmart. I will have to check back with you k yaar? ok I think I find the one coconut oil that does not smell it is the refined one.

Dear Asha : Thank you so much for the reply and the information.

First of all let me say I love your hair, it is long and appears healthy, now I am jealous

Right now I am using Almond Oil but was not sure if it is equally beneficial. I will try mixing it and see if the smell is neutralized. He is understanding but I know the smell almost makes him throw up so don't want to subject him to that.

I have been conditioned not to use the fragrant oils and thanks for validating that theory

I grew up using coconut oil so cant think of any other oil either but will try your suggestion.

Hi Deepa,
I have heard that many Americans also frown on the oil smell. My relative(working in US) applies oil and shampoos before going to work. You can try using mild shampoo to clean your hair .BTW does your hubby oils his hair?if so try using that.

Supriya : Yeah that is another problem but I usually oil my hair at night and was it before going to work so that is not a problem.

No he does not oil his hair, should get him hooked on that, that is a good idea

You are welcome, I am sure you get the compliments all the time

I like it when strangers come up to me and compliment my hair, especially Americans they get fascinated by long hair, although mine is not as long as yours.

Asha : In that case I am honored to be a women and get a glimpse of your lovely tresses. I can see that you do take care of your tresses and it shows
Yeah they think its an indian thing but then at the same time they subject their hair to harsh chemicals and hair colors so much that they get damaged and of course most of them have no concept of hair oil.
