Default Hair Problems

Hi all,

Am a new user and i've been reading all ur threads for quite some weeks. everything seems interesting. I have a small advice for hair fall.

Quite many girls, till they attain their puberty have a very long, thick and lustrous hair and probably after that, they may see signs of hairloss. and in many cases, it falls so much after delivery. There are lot of factors which influence hair loss. Quite a few are:

(i) Poly Cystic ovaries;
(ii) Pollution
(iii) irregular maintenance;
(iv) lack of nutrition
(v) inadequate sleep and stress
(v) dandruff

there are some people who wash their hair in salty water, but still their hair remains healthier. It is only the internal health that counts.

For hair fall: Take a good qty of coconut oil, add some castor oil into it, put it in a iron pot and boil it till it smokes slightly. Now, make a paste of the following herbs: 5 petal hibiscus, henna, curry leaves, little jeera, fenugreek seeds, vettiver (this is a root), vallarai powder (little - this is also a herb), karisalanganni powder (this is a herb which has darkening effects on the hair and it makes the hair voluminous and healthier), also add adhimadhuram (this is a herb which cures scalp itch and prevents dandruff). Add little water and grind it to a paste. Now, switch off the boiling oil, and add this paste slowly.

For dandruff: Take fenugreek seeds, lime seeds, little pepper and aloevera, grind it to a paste and use it on the scalp. Using this twice in a week may be beneficial. Do not keep it for longer hours on the scalp, since it may be so very cooling. Henna may also be useful in treating the same.

Poly Cystic Ovaries: For some females, they may have hair on legs and hands, whereas their scalp may look bald. Probably, their male harmones are at a higher levels, and till such time this is not treated, the hair fall may be intense. You may have to consult a dermatologist or a trichologist to solve this problem. She may treat you with Minoxidil solution and tablets to enhance female harmones and anaemia.

Nutritional deficiencies: Get urself tested for Iron, Zinc deficiency. The haemoglobin should be 12+, otherwise there may be hair fall.

For general hairfall and dandruff, herbs are very useful, especially ayurvedic and siddha medicines. Also, people who sleep in airconditioned rooms, or dry their hair using a drier or a table fan or an airconditioner may tend to have lot of split ends. Also, people who travel outside in hot sun may also experience dryness of the scalp and hair. These people should always apply oil on the root tips (the above herbal oil) and onto the scalp. And properly shampoo using a intense conditioning shampoo. U can use himalaya or nyle products which may not have SLS (Sodium Laureth Sulphate). Keep urself cool and lot of meditation and yoga helps to releive stress associated with hair loss.

Hello Manjula,
I think the Kannada name for 'Vallarai" is "brahmee soppu". You better check it up with the shop in Jaynagar Complex who sells "Sandege"

Dear Manjula,

This herb is used for Memory enhancement. The other name is "brahmi". This is a very good effective hair fall controlling herb. try it out. also, when you put the paste into the oil, turn off the stove. the oil will fume and once it subsidies, again turn on the stove and boil the oil nicely till a fine aroma comes.

The quantity of hibiscus, henna, curry leaves, karisalanganni leaves, aloevera (if leaf is available) should be in equal proportion - one handful. Methi seeds - 2 to 3 spoons, 1 teaspoon of jeera (jeera actually enhances blackening of the hair - some people just boil jeera in coconut oil and use it as a hair darkener), vettiver - few roots, vallarai powder - 2 teaspoons, adhimaduram - one small stick of it. Adding aloevera actually improves the hair texture and softness. It is a moisturiser as well. We can also apply it to the skin. YOu can also add some lemon juice (just 1/2 slice of lemon) after the boiling is over - lemon has lot of vitamin C and is an astringent - it reduces scalp irritation and redness, prevents dandruff. Regular massage of this oil reduces hair fall. During the weekends, this oil can be heated and applied to the scalp using cotton. Then, a towel dipped in hot water can be tied to the hair. This will strengthen the hair roots and remove dirt and debris from the scalp. And then regular shampooing can be done. Use a gentle cleansing shampoo always (free of SLS) and a conditioner after shampooing. Even though this oil may help 50%, it is the inner health also which contributes another 50%. Ensure you have adequate protien, iron and calcium in your diet. It includes sprouts (raw preferable), eggs, fish, dates, milk and dairy products. Try yoga and meditation - it also helps the inner health. Mail me guys after using the oil.

dear brb, it is truly very great to share these knowledge nowadays.i add a small recipe from my side,for hairfall and dandruff control.
Take 100 gm of methi seeds,and soak this in 500 ml of aloevera juice.( remove the skin of the aloevera leaves,takeout the pulp and with the blender or juicer take out the juice). Keep the mixture covered with a net,and keep in a shaded place.After four or five daye it will start sprouting.Take out the methi only and keep in sun. In the evening put the methi again in the old aloevera juice.Repeat this until all the juice is soaked by the methi.When the methi sproughts are dry,powder it and keep in a airtight container.
Take one tablespoon coconut oil and 1 teaspoon methi powder, and double boil the mixture. Apply to entire scalp and give a hand massage for 10 minutes. After 30 minutes wash with herbal shampoo.
Washing the hair with Hebiscuss leaves & buds grinded together or shikkakai powder gives a better result.
