Difference between layer cut and a step cut

In layer cut the hair is cut into different layers in lengths in a slanting position, leaving no space in between. So the layers blend and there will be a flow.

You can't spot out the layers.

Step cut as the name implies, hair is sported out in steps usually 2-3,leaving some spaces in between the steps. They do not blend so you can easily distinguise the layers,ie in a step haircut, the different lengths are noticeable.
Step haircuts include mullets, jagged cuts, choppy layers and clipped layers.

In step cut hair is cut in steps from BACK,and in layered cut hair is cut in layers form the FRONT.

Step cut makes hairs little short but layered cut can be done as per the length of your hair..

    Basic Hair cuts

No matter your face shape -- round, oval, square, heart or long -- there will be one/more haircuts that suits and look best on you.
Let's first know the basic hair cutting techniques!!!!!

    One length (bob)
In its purist form it is cut completely on the outside shape / edge. Weight and fullness on the outside shape. The whole shape of the cut tends to look triangular, i.e.. more width at the bottom edge than anywhere else.
Starting at the nape, take small sections from the hairline and cut a guideline. Using your guideline take small sections from the back and cut parallel to the guideline.

Starting on one side of the head, and using the previous guideline, take a small section from the hairline near the nape and cut a new guideline following on from the previous guideline. Using your new guideline take small sections from the side and cut parallel to the new guideline.

Do the same on the other side. Getting the client to move their head slightly from side to side and back and forward will show any signs of unevenness between each side.

A fringe can also be cut in the same way by cutting a guideline along the hairline at a suitable length.

    Layered cut

The hair is cut all over the head at varying angles following a guide length , this creates a lot of inside shape or movement. Weight and fullness is evenly distributed. In its purest form the whole cut tends to look round and even.

    Graduated cut

The hair is cut and held away from the outside edge, reducing weight and fullness on that edge and moving it to a higher line. In its purest form the whole haircut tends to have a diamond shape, i.e.. wider in the middle than anywhere else.

    Different hair cutting techniques

    Club cutting
Sometimes referred to as blunt cutting and often used when cutting the sides and top of the hair. The section of hair is held out from the head and cut off at the points/tips.

    Scissor and clipper over comb
Scissor and clipper over comb is a hairdressing method using the comb as a guide for cutting in areas where the hair is too short for a finger guide, as in the nape area and around the ears.

    Graduating
Using the length of the outside line as a guide, the hair is held away from the head cutting away the bulk from the outside line.

    Thinning
with scissors or razor the hair can be thinned to either, increase volume at the root by reducing the weight or to soften the features of a style.

    Freehand
freehand is not a technique but is used at the hairdressers discretion. For example using the features of the head as a guide the hairdresser could cut a straighter first guideline by cutting freehand.

    Texturising
the hair is cut to different lengths to produce a variety of different looks, short hair can be texturized to give a spiky look, long hair can be made to look ragged or less uniform and using a combination of long and short hair more fashionable looks can be achieved.

    Hair cutting combinations
All of the above hair cutting techniques can be used in conjunction with each other. There are many hair cutting combinations that can be used to create any number of exciting new hair styles.

Re: All about hair, reasons for hair loss,Diff haircuts,Layered hair styles(with pictu

Whether you have lengthy hair, short hair, straight hair or curly hair there are variety of stylish haircuts available, like feather cut, layer cut, Razor cut, Wedge cut, Strawberry cut, Uniform layer cut etc.

    Uniform layer cut:
If hair is parted from the middle, all hairs will be at the same length from the head. This gives a very much casual look. Hair is cut in uniform "layers" all over the head. If you are not sure of the hair style that would suit you, you can always go in for this uniform cut as trimming up the ends would lead to a better and faster growth.

    Graduating layer cut:
graduating layer cuts are haircuts with layers that gradually get longer until they are one length.

    Feather Cut:
The hair will be thin towards the end. A feather cut is a cut at ear level to hair and that lies on the neck. Feather cut is suitable for those people who do not have much time for spending on the hair

    Layer Cut:
The hair is cut uneven. From the starting level the hair is cut unevenly using a razor. After this cut, a bony tail would be more suitable and it can change your look!

    Razor Cut:
A razor cut, quite simply, is a haircut created when the hair is sliced with a cut throat style razor (equipped with a guard). Since the razor slices the hair and doesn't leave a blunt edge, a wispy effect is created.. In this trendy razor cut the hair will be thin towards the end. And it would suit for your modern dresses. And if your hairs are straight you can go in for this haircut.

    Wedge Cut:
This is the modified version of Boy-cut. This suits people with small faces.

    Strawberry cut:
As the strawberry is good to eat, so it is to look. This haircut is look similar like a strawberry fruit when you tie it like a pony tail. It gives a bushy, thick kind of look. If you have a thinner hair you can go in for a strawberry cut.
