need info on passport renewals in US.

is this true
my indian passport is expiring soon in 2010,but the US visa in it,is still valid until 2011.
when applying for new indian passport, do they cancel all visas in my old passport,even if they are valid..or do we need to specifically mention the passport office not to cancel it.

They will NOT cancel your valid visa. So, don't worry on that.

You can mention it to them but even if you don't, they will not cancel the valid visa. They will just mark on the front and back page 'CANCELED' and return it to you. I have checked my PP now just to make sure.Whenever you are traveling you need to carry the canceled passport too to show your valid visa in that.

You could even call up the embassy office if you wish.

Do not panic, they will not cancel the visa which is still valid.

The stamp on the passport will be something like "passport cancelled, valid visas not cancelled". Don't worry abt the visa. Even on a cancelled passport, the visas that are not expired remain valid. Make sure you carry both the old passport with valid visa and the new passport.
