| Hello Jojo, Yes, you can definitely get driver's license here on H4 visa! If you have time, you can apply for International Driver's license and drive here for 6 months, since it takes sometime to open a new bank account(for your address verification), your medical insurance etc. First you need to apply for learners permit for which you need to submit 6 points of identification. your passport- 3 points bank statement/ATM- 1 Point medical insurance- 1 point utility bill- 1point (u change call the electricity company and get the account transferred to your name) Finally goto the Social Security Office and get a letter from them stating that "you are not eligible to have a SSN" (take your passport and visa)(H4 dependents are not eligible for SSN) Go in the end, since the letter they give is valid for only 1 month. You need to get it renewed if you go later than 1 month. They have specified many things for the identification, but as H4 dependents we can produce only the above things which I have mentioned. you can see the NY state requirements here: NYS DMV - Identification Required to Apply for a Driver License All other states, pretty much ask for same thing. You can get the Driver's manual online. Read those instructions and take the written test. Its pretty easy to pass. 20 questions, objective type. In NY State, after you get learners permit, you need to take a compulsory 5-hour pre-licensing class. That will be provided by any driving school (they charge $20) Check with DMV of your state. Your leraners permit will be valid for upto 6 months(not sure) Practice driving with your hubby first and them take appointment for the road test (there'll be a 30 day waiting period) Practice well and give the test confidently. Dont forget the rules and keep in mind to drive on the right side of the road(I used to be very confused initially)! Good Luck!

| Jojo If your husband applies for the TIN# (i.e the Tax Identification Number) and once you receive that# it is very easy to get the drivers license. However for learners permit you can get the international license from India and the same will be useful to write the exam and take the learners permit.
