You might have applied for H1 through a consultant. Won't they help you in finding a job? There might be firms in your area where you can take a course in testing or so.. Try your luck.. Best Wishes , hope you'll make it through the H1 Lottery..

Hi all, I came here 1 yr back,i did BA ,B.Ed from india, mumbai and was working in internation school . but here as i am on H4 visa i canot work ,is there any way i can work here or any education which i can pursue which will help me get a good job here . thanks

| Say203 Analyse what is your interest..if you want to pursue being a teacher here in US...you can join as a voluntary teacher in any near by school and then write the required certification exams..i heard there are 5 exams to be written (am sure you would be able to clear them as you have already completed BEd in India..)..one of my friend is going to do the same thing..she has enrolled her son in a school and joined as a voluntary teacher thereand she is also on H4 and pursuing to become a teacher....after you are through with your certification etc..meanwhile you can apply for H1..until you are on a work visa like H1 or L2 we wont be allowed to work officially... for school teachers they get around 45 to 50K Per annum along with all the holidays they get almost 3 months holidays in a year... if you want to pursue anything in software you have to start getting the relevant education related to that particular area... If you want to start working from home for time being might be you can place ads on sulekha or any other sites reg. any play school or day school that way it keeps you occupied and you can also earn some minimal amount which helps you in paying off for the certification exams.. | Sandhya, Supriya, Writeme Good luck for your H1... Reg. jobs..as soon as you get onto market..after you have H1 and SSN# in your hand..it takes atleast 2 or 3 interviews for you to get that confidence..related to your area... When I came here I had around 6 years of exp..but leave out the India exp. whether you haev it or not it doesnt matter...we all have to start fresh here..if you have exp well good and fine makes things a bit easier..if not...then also fine...you can start on a fresh slate... my husband is into testing so he had helped me and taught me some testing tools and SQL and oracle commands... there is no harm in learning more tools if you want to they always come in handy when you need them as we all know in US they might ask anything anytime.. Reg. your related areas..i heard .net is doing good now..so might be go through various .net websites..and google search resumes which have .net and find out how they have worked on different projects...we have several websites which post interview questions on different topics. example..IT Interview Questions Open Database - GeekInterview.com all we have to do is..stick to one area and look for jobs in that area (however learn as many tools as possible as people are looking for a mix of all the knowledge..jack of all trades in short..) Good Luck and Best Wishes |

Hey all I also had gone through the same problems as all of you are in...but dont worry this is just one phase thats all...I asked my husband if I can work any part time or from home and he supported me at that time..ofcourse he was also a bit afraid as it was illegal...so I started with a low profile..I used to do baby sitting..i have started with only one baby one day per week..later on it used to be 2 days a week..slowly people started coming to me for baby sitting..however by that time I got my H1 and started concentrating on my job interviews...so you can try small things like this.. we have ads on sulekha asking for technical recruiters who work from home...marketing and placing candidates and they pay per candidate you place..it needs lots of effort and time and follow up...check with your husbands before you start working on this recruitment thing..as they know which one is a fake one or which one is a genuine one...I worked for a fake one where that guy had placed few of my candidates but didnt pay money...so we have to know the pitfalls here...

Hi all, I also worked full time back home. Here I am in H4 .Before the baby was born i used to volunteer and also did some course.Volunteering is good even if you are doing it only for a couple of hrs.But I have seen many indian wives doing threading, catering in small scale, working in grocery store etc.I never dared to do that.It is not legal and might have consequences if you get caught. My friend, who is born here but is a desi, told that when she called an indian lady who does henna, that lady was worried and asked here if she was american. Those who work like that usually keep a low profile. mj Last edited by mjohney : 21st April 2008 at 03:46 PM.
