Hello, there's a website called VolunteerMatch: Where Volunteering Begins - they show you local volunteer postings depending on your zip code and interest. Similar to you ladies, I was on an H4 visa holder and getting terribly bored when we lived in Omaha, Nebraska. Through this site, I'm happy to say that I volunteered at a local community college teaching english as a second language and also at a children's museum - both were highly enjoyable and rewardhing experiences and really helped me once I was ready to start working too.

Hi, I am volunteering in a public library since last 8 months...I go there almost everyday now!!! It is better than to sit at home ...I got this posted on VolunteerMatch: Where Volunteering Begins. Try in local public libraries...I am sure they will have opportunities. Go to websites like volunteermatch and craiglist .

Hi Sandhya I was also in the same situation...so don't lose patience. Volunteering in the public library is easy. if you check the library site there you might be able to find some volunlteer opportunities. You can also look up in craiglist for voulteering in your area. I think voulteering is a very good utilization of time. All the best Shaily

Dear Sandhya, Welcome to the US and to Alpharetta! As other ladies have suggested that one very good place to start volunteering is the local library. Alpharetta has a very good local library between exit 10 and exit 11. About making friends - do check out the "Indians in Atlanta" thread Atlanta Ladies - Introduce yourselves here! You'll meet lots of us who are living nearby and would be happy to interact with you and get to know you. love, Aarushi
