Unhappy Diagonised with PCOS

Hi All,
I am new to this forum and I am glad that I found this wonderful place to share each ones concerns.

I have been having irregular periods for about 8 months and when I went to the doctor, I was diagonised with PCOS. The doctor took a few blood tests and even took an ultra sound. The ultrasound says that there are no cysts in my ovaries and that they are normal with no enlargements. But my blood test says that my testosterone level is a little high (normal - 0.07 and I have 0.08. Even my blood sugar (normal 70 - 110 and I have 126 in fasting) and cholestrol levels are high. I am kinda worried. Has this been the case with anyone? Are your sugar levels and cholestrol levels high as well with PCOS? Can a person have PCOS without cysts?

The doctor has asked me to take birth control pills and has also asked me to consult a internal and diabetes specialist. She says the pills would reduce the testosterone level. I have been married for 1 1/2 years. We don't plan for a kid now. Though, I am kinda worried with what I read everywhere about PCOS.

Do you think its good to have Birth control pills for my case? I am terribly upset with this and I am not even able to think. It would really be great to have all of your suggestions. Plz help me.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Welcome to this forum. I can understand ur situation. I was also diagnosed for PCOS and i had irregular periods. Generally this PCOS is not completely curable but u can definitely give birth to child. I am a mom of 7 month old baby...Generally they say PCOs and diabetes are interdependant and we are given metformin(which is a tablet for Insulin control) to solve PCOS. Also birth control pills are best for PCOS when u dont plan for Kid. My sincere advise is try to plan for Kids early..Also u have not mentioned ur age here. So Kid planning depends on age too...Do not worry and stress urself. There are many out here who have conceived naturally with PCOS...
My best wishes & prayers are with u.

Hi,

I can totally understand your feeling coz I was diognised with PCOS less than a month ago. I was upset just as you were so my husband clarified with the doctor as to how bad the scene is.

She gave an example of astma... and said that just as a person with astma would take the medication and move on with life normally, so is the case for PCOS. Also, that I should be happy that the diagnosis is done and am taking remedial measures for the problem.

Statistics say that one in 10 women around the WORLD have PCOS... and its one of the main reasons for hormonal disorders in women.

Do not worry. Your doctor is the best judge about the medication and do as he/ she recommends.

You should be fine. I know I am...

She told me only whn we try to get pregnant..we know if thr r any problems. So we can solve thm early too. It's best to have ur first kid around the age of 25.. just to be in the safe side :)

Hi,

I can understand your situation, With PCOS you can concieve. I was diagnosed with PCOS and now I have a 11 month old daughter, PCOS and diabetes are interdependent so I was given metformin which is a diabetes drug I was on this drug for 6 months and I got pregnant. After the baby I am on Pill for excessive bleeding that happens with PCOS. Somethings that can improve with PCOS is to loose weight, less oily food and low carbohydrates this also increases the chances of pregnancy.
All the best to you.
