Dear friends Diwali is very near. It is a tradition to offer sweets during Diwali. Let us celebrate by sharing our recipes on making sweets. I am sharing how my mother used to make yummy Churma Ladoo.
Ingredients: Atta : 250 gms Pure Ghee : 250 gms Bura : 400 gms Pista (small sliced pieces):25 gms Almond sliced : 25 gms Saunf (small) :10 gms Elaichi powder : About a pinch Gond (fried) : 25 gms Preparation: Heat the ghee in a karahi. Pour the atta into the Karahi. Stir the atta and ghee on a medium flame till the atta turns brown. Take off the Karahi and allow it to cool. Mix the Bura and allow it to cool completely. Next introduce the sliced pista and almond pieces, alongwith the gond and the elaichi powder into the mixture and mix thoroughly. Take about 50 gms of this mixture and form a Ladoo. You can decorate the ladoo with an almond on top for added effect. Your ladoo is ready to serve.
Dear Asha I like your idea. I would like to relate how I prepare Gulab Jamuns at my home. Ingredients: Mawa/Khoya : About One and a half cups. Maida : 3 Tablespoons Chhena : Quarter cup Chotti Elaichi powder: About a quarter of a tea spoon Baking soda : About a quarter of a tea spoon. Sugar : 2 cups Ghee Method: Pound the Mawa and Chhena together. To this mixture add Baking soda, Maida, Elaichi powder and a bit of water. Divide the whole mixture into about 16 equal parts. Make each part spherical in shape. You need to make a sugar syrup. Add an equal amount of water to the sugar and strain away any impurities which show up. Heat this up in a karahi. You need to dip the gulab jamun balls in the sugar syrup for about 20 minutes before they are ready to be served. Many people add a bit of pista inside the gulab jamun for added flavour.
Dear Sushma
Thanks for your recipe. However, I sometimes use the readymade gulabjamun mix already available in the market. It helps when I am short of time...
Dear Dharmistha
You have a very sweet name. What does it mean? I have a Bengali friend who is called Sharmistha.
As far as Chhena is concerned, you can easily prepare it at home by pouring a few drops of lemon juice/citric acid over boiling milk.
Hope this answers your query.
