Nice topic Bhavna..I read in the newspaper yesterday about the same topic and this year they have suggested to use coconut shell idol ganesha. I dont know how many are going to buy that It looks similar to the clay model. I have attached the picture
Hi Priya, Thank you so much for sharing the unique pics of coconut shell idol Ganesha. Have never seen anything like that before. Where are these available? Would love to hear from you. Did you buy one?
Nice topic ladies..
I agree with keeping a permanent idol.
In the past 5 years, when we lived outside India, we never got any clay idol or never did we do any immersing. Its the faith and dedication that matters.
As of now preserving our natural resources is more important...so considering the go green motto, I'm happy with seating my favorite Ganesha idol for pooja every single year!!!
I also agree that manufacturing these idols gives thousands of people a job and some earning..I might as well just pay the guy or give him food for a couple of days instead of putting it in the idol that seems to perish in a couple of day's time..
Spread the word ladies..its for a good cause..
@ Congrats to Bhavna for raising this very important issue and all of you who are voicing your opinion.
Hi Tanoshii, Lovely food for thought...
You have focused beautifully on the issue like both sides of a coin. Its true, our faith is within ourselves - doesn't make much difference if we worship a permanent idol every year or immerse one every year.
Earlier, it used to be idols made of clay collected from river beds, but with the increase of population, more demand and lack of creative karigars who could carve idols, moulded POP idols are commercially considered viable....but environmentally, they are DISASTROUS.
But is anyone listening?
