Gujarat - Somnath Temple Somnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located at Veraval in the Junagadh District of Gujarat. It is one of the twelve “jyotirlinga”s of India and is very famous. The Somnath Temple has been built and destroyed as many as six times. The present structure is built in Chalukya style just adjacent to the temple shore. The summit of the temple is at a height of 155 feet. A “kalash” or a pot vessel weighing almost ten tons sits at the top. The flag mast on the apex is 37 feet in length. It is changed three times during the day. The jyotirlinga pratisthapan ceremony was done by, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first president of India. |
