Places of interest in Gujarat

We are planning to visit Gujarat this summer.I have no idea about which cities have places of tourists' interest and the places to visit.
I request you to suggest......names of the cities.....places of interest in different cities....shopping ideas......and importantly culinary specialities without which a pleasure trip is incomplete...we are a family of foodies you see

I for got to ask ...Is it very hot in summer? Like Rajasthan and Delhi?

Hi Phalguni, Gujarat has a history of ancient culture and tradition couple with an exotic mix of modern infrastructure. You can plan your tour based on your preferences like if you like to visit religious places, or do shopping or wish to witness the architectural marvels of the past and modern era.Ahmedabad, the largest city of Gujarat is one such city with a perfect blend of heritage and modernity.

Ahmedabad situated at the bank of Sabarmati River. The city is largely divided into the old city area and the new Ahmedabad as is evident from its sprawling malls and multiplexes, rising skyscrapers and wide roads with speeding luxury cars connoting an entirely opposite face of Ahmedabad in contract to the old city area with its conventional charm of predominant Gujarati culture, business and tradition.

Ahmedabad Weather :
The climate of Ahmedabad is hot and moist. Best period to visit Ahmedabad is between November and February, it is winter season. Weather is cool and pleasant in winter. In Summer (April-June) temprature can reach 46.0°C. Good Rainfall in monsoon (July-September) gives relief to ahmedabad from hot summer.

There are several places to visit in Ahmedabad; however, again I believe it is entirely your choice as to what your interests are - Historical places, religious places or sight seeing. Some of the famous places to visit include

• Juma Masjid, Sidi Sayed Mosque, Ahmed Shah Mosque, Rani Rupmati Mosque
• HatheSingh Temple, ISCON Temple, SwaminarayanTemple, Vaishno devi temple
• Sabarmati ashram
• Kankaria lake, Kankaria Zoo, Science city

And yes, eating out in specialty restaurants and shopping are part of the very Amdavadi culture. Not to forget the long list of multiplexes and an evening out with movies, masti and popcorn in the Drive-In Theatre.

Have you visited Jhulta Minar in Ahmedabad? Perhaps its only more publicity that would have made it as famous as the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Jhulta Minar or Swaying Minarets of Ahmedabad is famous world wide. These minarets are part of Siddi Bashir and can be swayed by applying a little force to the upper most arc. This mosque is famous for its mysterious construction that makes it sway.

A result of master craftsmanship and detailed mechanism causes the vibrations and swaying motion which is a major attraction of this place. An Englishman partly demolished one of the minarets to uncover the mystery behind swaying mosque but in vain. This unusual structure is still a mystery for all.
