Smile Vavs or Stepwells of Gujarat

Have you heard of the stepwells of Gujarat?

They are one of unique architectural feats, and a marvel of traditional Indian wisdom of rain water harvesting. Folklore has it that the wells were built to get the Gods to come down from their abode and sip water in these stone vavs. They are so well built that they can resist earthquakes of great magnitude. Some of the step wells are Rani ni Vav at Patan, Dada Hari’s Vav and Adalaj Vav at Ahmedabad.
