Uttarayan in Gujarat

Makarsankranti or Uttarayan is celebrated in Gujarat on the 14th of Jan. each year. Are you aware that an international kite flying festival is held here and people from all over the world participate in it? The most unusual of kites can be seen at this festival. But I do feel for the birds that get their wings entangled in the sharp glass coated manja that is used to fly kites these days. What should we do in this situation?

I've visited the kite museum and the real kites as well as the kite photographs are a pleasure to see.

I have some good news for you. Nowadays organic kite manja or dori is available in the markets. This dori is not glass pasted instead it is covered with organic material that is strong but does not hurt our winged friends.
