I delight in the traditional weaves and weft of the Gujarati craftswoman. The embroidary here is so beautiful and colorful. There are parts of this state which are arid and dry. Kutch is one of these. But these fantastic women make up for the dry indifference by showering upon themselves and their husbands and children vibrantly colourful embroidered clothes. The costumes that they wear here are unique in their splendor. The men look handsome in their finery.
It is tradition here to to put your heart into the emboidery as you paint with the needle, flaming reds, greens and oranges for your wedding dowry. The designs pass down the generations from mother to daughter.
The Ahir tribe wear lovely skirts with mirror work done on them but the elderly women mostly wear black.
The Rabaris wear black skirts with beautifully embroidered blouses. They even dress up their camels with embroidered costumes.
What is it inspires these women to make the most beautiful works and will these traditions die out?
