| | Maharastrian Saree - nawwadi Hi all,
Do you know about Maharastrian Saree- nawwadi. A nine-yard sari called the nawwadi is the traditional style of Maharashtra very similar to the men’s dhoti. The pleats of the sari are placed between the legs and tucked in the centre back. Fisherwomen in the coastal regions of Maharashtra still wear a nawwadi and well, it is worn without a petticoat!

Pictures of Nawari Sarees are posted here.
Now a days you do not find elderly people wering this nine yard saree. In the interiors it is still a traditional dress, almost worn everyday.

From my childhood I have been always fascinated by the beauty of the nauvari sari which I thought always enhanced the beauty of a beautiful woman.unfortunatly thetradition is dwindling of late. Rarely u find a young maharashtrian woman in that drape .still u find the tradition existing among the young women in neighbouring nizamabad districts of andhra pradesh but it could decline any time. The great painter Raja Ravivarma has depicted in his paintings this drape in all its glory and the great late Chantel boulanger had tried to evince interest in this drape thru her works
