Default language comparison

it is surprising that some words in different languages mean the same.
for example:-
when someone is wicked in nature / thought, in English we say he is a venemous person. In Tamil also there is a usage " avan vena pidichavan.

Similarly adamant in English and romba adam in Tamil.

Catamaran in English and kattamaram in Tamil

Probably if we go deep into languages, we may find more comparisons.

Any such comparisons noticed by ILites can be shared. Would be too delighted and continue my quest!!!!!

Default Re: language comparison

i find similarities between spanish, hindi.

in spanish 2 means dos
in hindi 2 means dho

in spanish 9 means nueve
in hindi 9 means nav

in spanish 10 means diese
in hindi 10 means dus

ya there are some similiarities between languages, may be they all emerged from one main language.

These discussions fascinate me!

Vetiver the grass/herb gets the English straight from tamil!
Mullagaitanni is a tamil word used in Indian restaurants in US for Rasam
curry used in America comes from I think it's tamil 'kari pattha' or is it malayalam?
