Hindi the National language of India.

Hi all ,

My Indian friend over here strongly disapproves and says that HINDI is NOT the national language of india. According to her it is just an OFFICIAL LANGUAGE.
Is it true?
Can you give me some proofs of any law stated by indian Government saying it is or NATIONAL LANGUAGE.
We had a debate in office due to her statement.
She says in the South part of India Hindi is considered as a secondary language.
We all opposed and said it is the national language.
She says show me on the net where the statement says IT IS OUR NATIONAL LANGUAGE..

Hindi is not the national language. It is only an official language along with English.

And your friend is right about Hindi being considered a secondary language, and the language of the state is given prominence along with English.


Article 345 provides constitutional recognition to include any language adopted by a state legislature as the official language of that state. In effect, there are "official languages" at the state and center level but no one "national language". Until the Twenty-First Amendment of the Constitution in 1967, we had only 14 languages and now we have 22 languages recognised I think.

Hindi is the national language but since we have different languages in different part of India. So people in some area found it difficult to follow. So please go through this site for more information.

Sorry to disagree, Hindi is the official language . we still don't have an national language, as there is a lot of conflicts on the subject.

this is a good discussion right
but it is considered as official as well as national so
as you have mentioned there are lot of conflicts on this subject it is true
so that some say hindi as official and some say as national.
Nothing is sure on this subject

Since you are a sport. LEt us go to the next round. There has never been a mention that HINDI is the national language in any of the sites, whether it is government or private sites. you can find national bird, fruit,flower everything. whent it comes to national l anguage, they just state that we have 22 languages and the article 345,346 mention that hindi is the official language.

Hindi is the primary official language and English is the subsidiary official language. Also each state has its own official language.
