When both women are over 25 years old.... and not related to each other....

When is it OK for one woman to address the other as "Aunty"? Is there some criteria? Some age difference between the called and the callee? :)

Never call a lady Auntie at any age unless they insists upon it. Refer to them as Mrs, Ms and by name if they ask you to.

    Hilarious thread...lol.
Any moment, the two people in question can ask to be adressed by names but if given a choice to me

Aunty - 20+ years age diff
Didi- 10-15 years age diff (although I have a friend with this age gap and I just call her by the name)
    Name - Less than 10

I just based it on appropriateness when it comes to kids. So why should the rule change we grow old? Of course, this is applicable to us Indians. Non indians would look at us with an expression "Aunty hogi teri maa":rant

    Completely agree!

And I remember Steves FB a while back ...sometimes people insist on calling others uncle ,aunty to some how feel younger about themselves.
    So true!

Yes yes I agree. But I also think no matter what age no woman should be called ad, it only reminds me of that godrej hair dye ad, where it echoes Aunty,Aunty,Aunty.
The first time I ever heard a kid call me aunty, I wished earth beneath cracked and I was swallowed.

I wish I had your username, cos am totally jobless at work today.

im pretty sure that even unmarried young girl is called aunty if she is out of shape..it happend with me in my college days.the other girl who called me 'aunty' was my senior from different college..
to my suprise, now after being mother of 1 yr old kids at my place who are 5 to 12 year old call me akka(sis)..it sounds little weird but i like that..

why is calling a woman 'aunty' more dangerous than calling a man 'uncle'? :)
