Where do you get butter paper in USA? I plan to make obbattu/Poli for Ugadi this year, just wanted to ask how do you ladies flatten the poli. Do you use butter paper or use any other kind of plastic sheet to do so. Please share your toughts...
I am not exactly sure what butter paper is (Brit term) but my guess is that wax paper might work for you. It is available in the plastic wrap aisle in any grocery store. It will be in a long narrow box like plastic wrap comes in. It is also useful to put in the bottom of cake pans so that the cake comes out cleanly or to wrap food items that you don't need to worry about drying out (like crackers). It was the standard food wrap here in USA before plastic wrap.
Parchment/wax paper would do the trick. They are available in stores like walmart, michaels, joann etc. Alternatively, you can simply use the aluminium foil paper to make polis. I use the aluminium foil on a daily basis to roll out my rotis. They are oh so perfect.
Wax paper is cheaper than parchment but parchment is stronger.
Dear Tashi, Shuba, Ammu
Thank you very much all of you for your feedbacks. Will definately look for one in walmart.
I will definately post how the poli came out once i prepare them.
As Tashi said, if it works even for wrapping purpose, then i will definately send you guys some poli wrapped in it.
