taking gold to india

I have bought gold coins for my sister's marriage, need to take those to india.
How should i carry them while travelling? any advice. i am worried abt taking them safely to india, customs checking in india etc. is there any limits?

I took in my hand luggage along with my other jewels 2 years back.No questions in customs then.You are allowed to take a few .

Manju, i bought coins in edison, you can buy in any of the gold stores as long as it is those good quality coins. like swiss coin or maple etc. i was never able to get maple so got only swiss ones.
can we buy it online? i never knew abt it.

Is gold cheaper in US than in India? If so how much is the difference. What is the rate of gold for 1 gm in US?

I think it is few dollars more here than in india. due to premium for the coins. even the gold jewellery is few 100$ more than buying in india.
my mom said the quality will be good here. I am not 100% sure abt the rates.

we can buy gold online also i tired monex.com(they take a commision of 200) .but i have a dobt is there any difference of amt if we buy in online or in edison.
