yeah .. i dont know how far this is true.. but having heard about this quite a few times from my friends i have switched to Pyrex glassware with Blue Lids.

those are comfortable and come in round and rectangle shapes.. But taking some sidedish is still a problem for DH( I take curry on top of rice itself). I give some plastic small boxes for that.

Ditto for me as Ranchu, except for having red color lids.

Hi there!
Plastics have BPA in them. But there are some that are BPA (Bisphenol A) free. Usually there are numbers on the bottom of the container. The lower the number, the better quality it is. So say for example between a 1-3 is good for storing food and heating. Most companies have started using only number 1 for food items.
There was a big study done for the BPA contaminant found in plastics which raised huge flags about the palstic bottles and containers used for food.
Glass is a better choice by far.

Thanks,
Oopall!

Mostly it is glass containers by pyrex or anchor. Sometimes in stainless steel dubba (like sevai or thayir sadam). To my daughter I pack in milton hotcase.

One option is to pack hot food in stainless steel or glass Thermos bottles and then you don't have to reheat in micro. You can get wide mouth bottles for food and small ones for kids lunches.

Check the website Bisphenol A - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia great article about BPA.

Most companies have changed thier business practices since FDA got involved.

Hi,
After what I have read over several months, the heat is what activates that particular chemical in the plastic. Water bottles are ok as long as keep away form direct sunlight like leaving in the car etc.
