Default Shipping Sambar podi from India?? Possible??

Hello All,

A strange question. Is there a way to send Sambar podi from India to USA? Usually I get it from people who come here but this time no one is travelling and I am running low on sambar podi. I don't like store bought ones either.

Please suggest some options if there are any. Would normal courier work? Would there be any problems in customs etc.,?

Any ideas??

Thanks,

Hi Aswini,

why do you prepare at home urself.. its simple if you can get the ingredients, you can powder in the mixie itself. I do it for every 15 days and store it.

thanks ramya for the reply. I have to make at home if there is no other option. Also, I don't know if grinding in mixie will give very fine powder. So, just checking for other options.

Check with the local post office whether they allow this item shipping.if this is the only item this may be cheaper for shipping.

Hi aswini,

my Mom had sent me such packages from india and i never had any problems receiving it....i mean they'll send it in speed post and i would get it here within 5-10 business days...Regular register post will take some more delivery time....the charge depends on the package weight age...
one important thing while sending such powdered items is PACKING-it should be done really really well....
hope this helps...

You can very well make it at home since you get all the ingredients here.If you have a mixie, you will get very fine powder as well.It is simple too ,so why go through all these troubles of getting from India.

ASwini
I am just like you..irrespective of making my own sambar powder, I still prefer what amma makes. It has the best flavour. Everytime I goto India or someone from India visit me,I always give a list of the very same sambar powder and stock up..but am afraid even am running out of it.I have not explored any option of getting sambar powder sent from India, thought I really wish to. But, my MIL has sent couple of stuffs to my SIL in Australia through the post office near their home in Chennai. The parcel reached in 2 weeks and the best part was the things were home delivered.I am told that the post office charges rs3000 for 22kgs to goods to be sent to USA.So you can check out this option. I am not sure if my MIL sent any sambar powder to Australia..but she sent hoards of other things through that parcel. So, I am planning to ask my MIL to send me some in January.

Thanks a lot for the replies, ladies. I am so used to the sambar podi we make in India (flour mill one). I do grind it in mixie sometimes but I feel its different than the one my mom grinds using flour mill. So I am keeping that as the last resort.

I will ask my mom to enquire in the nearest Post office.
Thank you ladies.
