Hii Friends
Supriya has already posted this doubt on milk powders. I need a little more clarification.
I wanted to know if "instant nonfat dry milk" can be put to same use as whole milk powder. I was planning to make some sweets tomrw. Chitra Madam sugggested Nestle milk powder. Will we get it in US?
Also, is cofee-mate (cofee creamer) same as milk powder?
I have never used milk powder, so I am totally naive in this area. It would be very helpful if anyone can help.

Hi Nitha,
I bought "nestle carnation low-fat dry milk powder".I am sure we can use it for the purpose you have mentioned.yet to try out recipe using it.
Suji,
ready to eat stuff are good.I have tried long back, when kiddo was hands full.
Nitha:
Well, I certainly need to lose weight but the vaidya has assured me that in this case the ghee will be metabolized with his other items as medicine. He also thinks I am going to lose weight with the treatment.
I worked in OB/GYN office for years before I went back to college and its best to be chubby after delivery. You need that extra weight if you breast feed. It will fall off if you are active.
As to fat consumption, I have a genetically low cholesterol so I need to be sure to eat adequate fats. Back in my 20's, I was on a low cholesterol diet with my husband who had a family scare (they had early heart attacks and hideous cholesterol genetically based) and I got feeling very very bad. When I had my cholesterol checked it was 95 which is subnormal, so I had to increase my fats! Low cholesterol is more dangerous than high! I keep this habit for the time since then: I try to be sure to mix my fat intakes so I get the benefits of all the types: sunflower, corn, olive, butter/ghee, flaxseed, grapeseed, sesame.
Nitha:
Coffeemate is all the stuff you are avoiding...forget that. It is just used as coffee creamer, no baking use that I know of.
The nonfat milk, based on my nutrition training, has five times the protein and non of the fat of regular milk so it is really a good alternative in many cooking applications. Reconstituted it is good for baking with a cost savings. My Tamils friends in next town use it successfully in gulab jamuns if this helps you know whether to use. It doesn't have the aroma of the Indian mawa though.
Supriya,
I checked on our regular grocery shop site. They dont have "nestle carnation low-fat dry milk powder". They have carnation evaporated milk. Are they same?
- Nitha
Carnation is the branded one but the non branded ones in Walmart, Aldi, Price Chopper etc are just fine only little cheaper. (Don't get the one in health food store bulk dept...terrible!!) It will be in a box (large, small....) in the baking aisle near the canned milks. Some packing is packets in the large box, rest is loose in a pour box.
