Hello gals!
Hey, I am surprised:) I feel that I do such boring stuff and you all are finding it interesting...Ikkaraikku akkarai pachai!! ( similar line in English..Distant hills are greener!!!)
As a matter of fact, I used to be much more adventurous with cooking when my kids were younger and i was younger!! Nowadays, I make do with anything and besides, when you buy veggies like cabbage, cauliflower etc, they are so big and lasts forever when cooking for two:(
Besides, the trick is giving interesting names to the usual routine dishes:)

| | Re: Whats for dinner today? Methi leaves Sambar
The methi leaves sambar is very simple: Clean and chop your methi leaves. Make a tadka/seasoning of mustard seeds, urad dhal and hing in a tspn of oil, add your methi leaves and a small onion chopped (optional), saute everything with a dash of haldi. Now add your tamarind puree, salt, sambar powder and some water and cook till the raw smell of the tamarind is gone. I also add a tspn of jaggery as we like a touch of sweetness! Add cooked dhal and sufficient water, bring to a quick boil. That's it, your methi leaves sambar is ready!

| | Re: Whats for dinner today? Carrot Kosumalli
I learnt the term kosumalli here in IL! It is actually the Tamil word for a salad preparation.
Carrot Kosumalli : Soak a tbspn of moong dhal for about an hour or so. Grate 2 or 3 carrots, chop two green chillies. Mix all the three together with some salt and a 2tbspns of lemon juice. In a tspn of olive oil, season out some mustard seeds, urad dhal, curry patha and hing and add to the mixture. You can garnish with finely chopped corainder leaves and grated coconut (optional).
Please try it and let me know if you all liked it:)
Happy eating.

Dear Hasita,
My spicy salsa came out of a bottle I bought in the super market:) But here is a recipe for it. Just note that you need not have all the ingredients like celery etc. Some good tomatoes and normal onions too will do:
3 large ripe tomatoes, diced
3 roma (plum) tomatoes, diced
4 green onions, finely chopped
4 fresh jalapeno peppers, finely diced
1 stalk celery, finely diced
4 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
2 teaspoons ground black pepper
salt to taste ....
In a large bowl, combine the tomatoes, plum tomatoes, green onions, peppers, celery, cilantro, garlic, lime juice, pepper and salt to taste. Refrigerate for 45 minutes before serving.
