Do Americans treat us differently?

You are absoultely right. If Indians are over friendly, their purpose is AMWAY here in US. I don`t know why the people are so calculative and selfish.
I too came across the same experience. I met one lady in subzi mandi,NJ.
She is kind and voluntarily enquiring all my personal details.
Very next week she called and chatted for an hour. At the end she started marketing for Amway. I was innocent, till that end I cannot realise the motive.
My husband warned me of my innocence and that is another story.

I joined the Tupperware after giving a good sales to a friend. They at the top always brainwash us to get more sales. The products being very costly, most people, even those who could afford, would not see the benefits. And the system in TW is such that we should call the customers every week to tell them about that week's offer. I am lucky and realised that I will lose friends if I did business so I stopped that. I just buy when I need to.
