US to India 7.9c per minute - Your Story?

Hello-

Most of you would have heard recently that reliance india call reduced US to India calling rates to just 7.9cents per minute. That is just Rs.3.40 per minute - very close to local call rates. Not long ago, the rates were Rs.62 per minute. That is a 94% reduction!

If we don't think about it too much, it is just another decrease in price of a consumable. But the calling rate between India and US has a special significance. Until recently, telephone was the lifeline of connection between US emigrated Indians and their family back home. The expensive price of calling rates limited how much we can be in touch with our families.

Every one of us have a funny or interesting story to share when the US Indian calling rates were sky high. Why don't we celebrate this time by sharing those stories?
