please help us -documents to buy a new car in nj

Anyone please help

I dont knoww if i have posted this in the right forum but i have searching answer to my query for a long time.
me and my husband have arrived in US in June 08
Both have driving licences of india
my uestions are
1.can i on h4 visa take a driving licence test :confused:
2 to buy a car do we need a credit history.we have not taken a credit card
or employment letter is sufficent.we want to buy a car in installments from a dealer

I have heard indians buying a car in loan in 15 days they arrive from US

thanks in advance if anyone cud help me with the answers
its really difficult for us to manage without a car here.we would have to go in for a second hand if credit history is a major critieria

hi rekhat,

you can apply for Drivers license when you are on H4. i am also on h4, and applied for drivers license. cleared my written test and need to give road test.

regarding buying car, they will definetly check credit history. as you told some people are buying cars within 15 days of their arrival in US, i dont know much about this may be some of our other IL friends can help you..

Regarding second hand cars you can search in sulekha, eknazar and craigslist.

In NJ ....things are a bit easier....
even if u are in h4....no worries....there are 2 options

if u have a indian driving license....u can directly sit for the wriiten test ...and once u clear the wriiten test u can get the driving license on the day itself and start driving...

second option is if u dont have a driving license....u have to go for the written test and on passing u have to go for a road test tooo...on passing it ...u can get the license and drive...

for getting a loan ...i guess credit history is needed....i cant help u in this regard....better u contact organisation who gives loans....
