Hi Neeraja,

Don't worry. Even i went to India last year to India single only for the first time. I was very scared, but really i tell you it was very easy....i wondered myself why i was worrying somuch for this after my travel.

Be alert onthe things you carry and on important documents, don't talk to any much or give your personel details. If you need any you can get guide from airport service people.

All the best.

Smile Re: plan to go to india

Hi,

My son travelled alone to India when he was 13 yrs old. No big deal. Take it easy. Remember, there is a first time for everything!!

Dont talk to strangers, especially in Indian airports. Keep some cash, both $ and Rs. You know, where nothing else works , money works! Any also, you may need it in the rest rooms. Travel light. You should not expect any help from strangers. Dont take any lugguge from strangers. Take photocopies of all pages of the passport. Especially the Visa. Leave one copy here at home and keep the other copy with you. Dont give this copy to anyone. When you leave the ticketing counter, make sure your passport with visa or GC is intact. Dont make it obvious that you are travelling alone for the first time. Keep a list of Phone # and address of your contacts - both in India and US.

If you are still nervous, keep a cell phone with International Roaming service - atleast until you reach your destination. You can cut the services off after you reach.

Regards,
Sharada

Pls. remember less luggage more comfort and you don't need to rely on any stranger to lift the bag to cabin etc., Keep some book handy and try to read during transit, otherwise you may stare at things. Most airport crews are helping. My mother-in-law who can't speak any english travelled back and forth by herself. It is all about confidence. She had print outs handy with the plane number, she just showed that to the airport crew and they directed her to the respective gates/
