Default Which/How much Oil do you use for Cooking/ Deepam?

Hello Ladies,

I have always been very curious about which oil is the best for Indian cooking...both taste wise and health wise.

I typically use Canola..but have started researching recently and found that canola is not good for health..people say Olive oil is the best but research also says that too much olive oil is also not good for health.

So my question is which oil do you all ladies use? Do you check if the oil is refined/unrefined?

I am trying to make healthy life choices so any help/input will be appreciated

hi all,'

we use corn oil. as the we don't like the vegetable oil or canola as it gives a fish smell once we put on the fire. otherwise we use idayam for idli dosa chutney powder

For regular cooking, I use olive oil as it is best for health. Buy the extra virgin kind from costco.

For frying, we use saffola oil from costco.

Idhayam Nalaennai

For frying - Dhara or Saffola .. it depends :)

For western foods its EVOO [Rachel ray followers will tell you what that is]

I hate vegetable/canola or corn oil, as I feel some sort of smell gets in the food because of the oil when it gets heated...

I use Extra Virgin Olive oil for the cooking. But for frying I use the Canola oil. Canola oil does not smell that bad when you heat it to the right temperature. When it is overheated it starts giving out the bad smell.

Hi,
I use sesame oil for idli chilli powder and for dosas.
Dosas will have nice aroma when we use sesame oil.
For curries and other cooking I use olive oil.
Previously I was using canola oil. Unlike some ILs said
it did not smell bad.
Canola (made from canola seeds and named after the inventing
country Canada) oil, olive oil and sesame oil are the 3 best oils
for cooking. I read in a book by John Gray.

We use Mazola Corn Oil for regular cooking. And for some recipes i make use of Olive oil. Vegetable oil is good for health, still we didnt like the smell in it.Many of my neighbours get our sunflower oil from indian stores.
