How frequently i should change the gasket in pressure cooker?

hi all,

Since 1 yr i am using my pressure cooker. As of now the ring gasket is fine. No leakage nor delay in whistle. But i have heard that gaskets are to be changed after a particular period for safety reasons.

Can anybody let me know, when i should change the gasket? Is 1 yr already a long period?

I too sail in the same boat.i am using my gasket for more than a year.
Normally they tell, Gasket should be changed every 6 months.

But i think No one follows that.

i do not know how frequently we should change the gasket but personally i feel we should use it as long it is in good condition...why shd we discard something good ?

One of my friends advised me to keep the gasket in freezer every night after washing it and use it the next morning this way the gasket will last longer.

I too got the idea from my friend.But prestige wala told me, it holds good only in hot places.IN places like bangalore,gasket should be put in water.

I usaully use mine for a long period of time. I wash it and leave it in the fridge!

For safety reasons, I am not sure how the gasket will influance the pressure cooker SAFET. but it will impact on the leakage
You MUST check the SAFETY VALVE and Whistle canal often so that it was not blocked to be SAFE.
You can use them as long as they are working fine and you are monetoring them regularly

It is advisable to change the gasket once in a year..whether the place is hot or cold.

i dont know abt how the gasket affects if we use it for longer.

but one tip. if ur gasket is not working properly just dont dispose that. keep that safely somewhere. once ur 2nd gasket got the same prob then use the 1st one regularly. it will work well. keep the 2nd safely. it may be useful again............ so only 2 gaskets r much enough for very long peiod.

i think the company said to improve their business. this is my view.

Hi all,

Tip to find, whether the gasket is fine or not :

1. Very small cracks will be found on the rims of the gaskets.
2. If the cooker take a lot of time to whistle.
3. Extra-ordinary sounds coming while cooking.
4. If you find, steam/water coming of the sides of the cooker.

I found this by my experience. Hope this helps you all .

but the one that we should never forget is we should not open the lid of the pressure cooker as soon as we turn-off the stove.[we should open the lid when only if it is easy to take-off the whistle freely with out any pressure in that cooker.....] if it is so the life time of the gasket will decrease.this was my own experience and shopkeeper too says the same
